Slavery Symposium Panels Discuss Southern Legacy at Princeton University

To mark the completion of the Princeton & Slavery Project, the University hosted an academic symposium from Nov. 17–18, involving academic lectures, artistic exploration through plays and sculptures, panels, and a keynote address by Nobel Laureate and Professor Emerita Toni Morrison.

After Friday’s keynote address, a panel of student contributors to the Princeton & Slavery Project joined college presidents and other scholars to investigate university ties to slavery, sharing  their research findings and experiences.

Panels included: “The Princeton & Slavery Project: Some of What We’ve Learned,” “The Princeton & Slavery Project: How It Shapes Our Broader Understanding of Universities and Slavery,” and “The Princeton & Slavery Project: How It Changes Our Understanding of American History and Poses a Challenge to Historical Commemoration.”
